Spanish Property Purchases
There are a number of reasons as to why people decide to buy a property in Spain, whether it’s to work, retire, or have a holiday home away from home. While the thought of purchasing a property in a country that’s not your own may be a daunting prospect, it need not be if it is done in the right way.
Instructing an independent Spanish property lawyer and thorough research on the property you are considering buying at an early stage are both key. Other issues to consider are the costs of buying a property in Spain and the costs of maintaining the property once you become a homeowner. Below, we set out how we can assist you.

The process of buying a property in Spain

Conveyancing in Spain can be a difficult process if you are unsure where to begin, especially when considering any legal and linguistic obstacles you may face.

How do I buy a property in Spain? From engaging an independent Spanish property lawyer to communicate with the estate agent and negotiate with the sellers, to preparing the completion documentation and attending the completion meeting on your behalf, we detail the full process of buying a property in Spain here

What comes after buying a property in Spain

After the completion documentation has been signed and the ink has dried, your lawyer should make payment of the purchase tax and communicate with the property registry to ensure that the property is registered in your name.

Other things that will need to be considered are the utilities, the payment of IBI, the payment of community fees (if applicable), and the payment of Spanish non-resident income tax (again, if applicable), which your lawyer will inform you of.
